60-Mile Men is proud to introduce the 2010 60-Mile Men. Details about each of these special men are below, including where you can find them during the 2009 Breast Cancer 3-Day Season.
MR. JANUARY: Jon, 50, is Director of Operations for a print and mail facility. He’s married with 2 not-so-young children and 3 beautiful granddaughters. He enjoys snowboarding, football, hiking, working out in the woods and playing with his granddaughters. His favorite toy is his John Deere lawn mower and he can be seen mowing the lawn way too often. Jon spends much of his time battling Mother Nature in trying to maintain trails in the woods behind his house.

I walk because I love my wife. I walk because I love my daughter. I walk because I love my 3 granddaughters. I have lost 2 good friends to breast cancer. I’ve watched 9 brave friends survive breast cancer. I would like to think that those of us who walked have helped those 9 friends survive. We are making a difference, I truly believe that. I’ll keep walking until I can’t or we have finally beat this. If it takes old guys getting naked to help the cause, well, I guess I’ll do that, too.

MR. FEBRUARY: Roger, 51, is a Logistics/ Maintenance Manager. He enjoys riding his Harley, playing sports, fishing, shooting pool and an occasional movie or concert. He also enjoys dancing and is a very good cook. He loves spending time with his loved ones “because each day is a blessing from God”.

I'm a 3-Day addict; I have been addicted since I first went to closing ceremonies in 2002. I crew because of my brother Bob who died of cancer, my sister Kathy and my love Mary who are both survivors and all who have faced cancer. I do this in hopes that God will one day let us find a cure for this dreaded disease until it will only be a memory and our loved ones will never again have to say, ‘I'm a survivor’.

MR. MARCH: Vic, 56, has been in law enforcement for 33 years. He still enjoys going to work every day and helping people. His off-duty joys are spending time with his wife and dogs at the cottage and riding his Harley. Upon retiring, Vic would like to spend a summer hiking the Appalachian Trail.

I participate for my mother and other friends who have suffered and ultimately survived this terrible disease. And also so that none of my other family and friends — from my 22- year-old niece to my oldest living relative — will never have to face this battle. I hope my small effort will help find a cure.

MR. APRIL: Jimmy, 45, owns a painting company. In his free time he enjoys riding his Harley and vacationing with his wife and son. He also enjoys time on his boat fishing or just hanging out. He plays ice hockey and golf, and enjoys working around his yard and entertaining family and friends. He is always ready to go and always in for an adventure.

I am a four-year esophageal cancer survivor. I participate in the memory of my mother who I lost to cancer. Also for my family and friends who have battled all forms of cancer. I walk for the people who cannot walk and to bring awareness to the community to find a cure for cancer.

2009 Philadelphia Crew
MR. MAY: Jeremy, 31, graduated from Northwood University and worked in banking for 10 years. He keeps busy traveling and playing softball and darts. He has raised rabbits for 19 years and has had the opportunity to travel all over the United States and Japan to judge rabbit shows. He also enjoys spending time with friends, family and his Daschund, Shelby.

I walk and wear pink proudly to help create awareness for men of the risks of breast cancer. I hope one day soon a cure will be found and my young nieces will never have to endure the fears of breast cancer. Until that day comes, I will continue to do what I can to help raise awareness and fight cancer.

MR. JUNE: Charles, 27, is a professional Engineer and designs air conditioning systems for apartment and condominium buildings. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In his spare time he enjoys shooting, sports, sailing and spending time with his friends.

I signed up for the walk as a personal physical challenge. But as I thought about it, I decided to dedicate my walking to my Grand Dori, my maternal grandmother who passed away after a 10-year battle with breast cancer. My grandmother was an incredible woman and is missed dearly. I also walk for my other family members who have had the disease and those who I hope never have to suffer from it. I hope that with my help, my future wife – and, possibly, daughters – will never have to face this disease.

MR. JULY: Nate, 34, is a Commercial Insurance Consultant who lives in Florida. An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoys swimming, SCUBA, biking, fishing and cruising with the top down. When he is not in, or on, the water —or racing around on his bike or in an exotic car — Nate enjoys spending time with his young son and daughter.

Cancer has affected my family in many ways, I walk to honor my mom who is a 4-year colorectal cancer survivor and my mother-in-law who is a 6-year breast cancer survivor. I walk for my children and their generation. Last year, cancer took the life of a 34 year old friend of mine in 4 months time. She will not get to watch her baby boy grow up. So I walk and crew to do my part to find a cure.

He participates in the Breast Cancer 3-Day events and other local charities with his wife and friends. He enjoys the outdoors and spending time traveling with his wife and playing with the grandkids.

I first walked to support my wife, who is a cancer survivor of 23 years. My first event in Philadelphia. WOW! It blew my mind away. I now walk to support my wife, family and friends who have already been touched by this disease. I also walk in the hope of finding a cure so that my stepdaughter and other friends and relatives will never need to know the devastation that breast cancer can bring.

MR. SEPTEMBER: Matt, 19, is an Applied Communications major at Kent State University and enjoys watching and playing sports. This Eagle Scout is also very involved with his fraternity, of which he is a refounding father. He plans on becoming a disc jockey when he is finished with school.

Everyone walks or crews for different reasons - for their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts and friends who have had breast cancer. I am a person who is one of those, as my mother was diagnosed when I was only 12. She is one of the reasons I crew and walk. I also walk so that my future wife, daughters and close friends won't have to go through what so many women go through every year. I walk for a breast cancer-free future.

MR. OCTOBER: Ken, 52, is a practicing Family Physician from Michigan. Aside from his practice, he enjoys bicycle riding, playing golf, hiking and traveling. Ken has volunteered for many medical and humanitarian projects both inside and outside the U.S. He is very proud of his 3 boys and cherishes everyday with his spouse, who is a breast cancer survivor

As a family doc of nearly 21 years, I have diagnosed and counseled many women of all ages for their breast cancer. I have hugged many patients and families as they grappled with the difficult treatment decisions. However nothing could have prepared me personally for the anguish, fear and pain experienced when my spouse was diagnosed 4 years ago. We both feel very lucky and thankful to the Susan Komen Foundation for the remarkable advances and life-saving treatments supported by this tremendous event. We walk together to support those who need lifesaving mammograms, experimental treatments and for those who are unable to do so. Thanks for your support and see you at the finish line!

MR. NOVEMBER: Vince, 50, is a Systems Engineer for a large contractor. His interests include technology, hunting, dirt bike riding, photography and socializing with friends. He enjoys being with his family and playing with his daughter’s dog, Chloe.

I walked in 2006 in honor of my beautiful wife who is a very courageous breast cancer survivor. Since then, I stayed involved as a crew member to honor the rest of the women in my life so they never have to face this disease. I intend to remain active in The Walk until I can walk no more so that we can prevent someone else from hearing the words, ‘It’s cancer’.

MR. DECEMBER: Luke, 33, served in the military for 12 years and works in IT. In 2008, he was on a reality dating show that ran for 10 episodes which, along with being an avid participant in the Breast Cancer 3-Days, he counts as one of the most exciting experiences of his life. He is currently working on his Master's degree and has started a business doing website design. His passion in life – his two daughters.

In 2005, at the age of 27, my sister was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and she has been fighting it ever since. I got involved originally for her and my nieces, who I did not want to lose their mother, but I quickly realized my involvement was also in hopes that some day my own daughters will only know breast cancer as something that Auntie Shayna once had. I will continue to walk until I can't any longer, and my goal is to do a 3-Day in a new city each year until I have done them all.

I had the joy of meeting Jeremy, Mr. February 2008, this past weekend at the 2009 San Francisco 3-Day. What an amazing person! All of these men are inspirational and deserve our support!
A big thank you to Jeremy for practically carrying me into Closing Ceremonies after my injury and for keeping our lone teammate company on those last 10 miles.

It was my first 3-day in San Diego this year. It was great to have my teammate, Luke, as part of the wonderful 60 mile men! I still need to get my calendar from you, Luke! Haha! It was also great to meet you-- Mr. January (Matthew). You have mad dancing skills! Save me a dance next year if you walk in San Diego again. It was also great to meet you, Mr. June (Charles). Thank you for making a donation to my walk this year. The checks were sent back to me due to the confusion with the 3-day post office. I received other donations to my account and reached $2384 so I am going to pay it forward to another teammate that can use the money for reaching their goal. Thanks again 60 mile men... you rock! :)
Looking forward to seeing you in 2010! I will be walking in Boston, Tampa & San Diego!
Lots of Love,
Kathy

As part of my love for the 3-Day event, I'm trying to "collect" as many 60 Mile Men as possible. I have pictures of myself with 4 from '09 & '10, in addition to two more solo pictures. My hope is to add to my collection when I Crew in Michigan and walk in Philadelphia in 2010. I look forward to meeting more of you FABULOUS guys; until then, you'll be gracing my wall!
