Thanks for a great party and a great year

  • Millions of miles walked. (All those training walks add up.)
  • Tens of thousands of participants.
  • Hundreds of tons of gear moved.
  • Thousands of port-a-potties used.
  • Countless jokes and t-shirts about 'breasts,' 'boobies,' and 'hooters.'
  • Millions of dollars raised.
  • And, of course, 12 NAKED GUYS!

All for one noble cause: The eradication of breast cancer and all cancers.

The fight is not yet over.  And we will continue to walk, and continue to crew, and continue to pose naked to raise awareness and money for the fight.

Thank you to everyone that walked with us, and shared their stories with us all year long.  And thank you to everyone that braved the weather for a great post event party.  (Especially Ted, Mr. March 2009 who travelled from Dallas to the great white north.)

100_1129  (Next year: Same time, same place: 1st Saturday in December, at Gus O'Connors.)

Of course, the 2009 Calendars are still available (THEY MAKE GREAT HOLIDAY GIFTS!  As do our apparel items!)

California Dreamin'

The San Diego 3-Day was held this past weekend, and the 4,400+ walkers and 600+ had an amazing time!  The 75 degree, sunny days along the beach were gorgeous!  And while the 50 degree mornings were a little cold to the native Californians, this Michigan man had a wonderful time (Especially becuase it was 18 degrees at home!)

100_0945

Congratulations to the 4,400 walkers that raised over $11million, and the tens of thousands of participants around the country that raised tens of millions of dollars in the fight against breast cancer.  And Congraultions to Barbara Jo on your 100th breast cancer walk, and the over $1million you have raised in 10 years of walking.

While the 2008 3-Day season is over, the battle against breast cancer and all cancers continues.  The 2009 60-Mile Men Calendar is still on sale and makes a great holiday gift, as do 60-Mile Men and 60-Mile Women apparel items.   (See the 60-Mile Men Store on the left)

And don't forget to join the 60-Mile Men on December 6th for our 2nd Annual Post 3-Day Season Party.  (See the details on the upper right.)

October 15, 2008

Welcome Back D.C.; Hello Philly!

Reports from Mr. April and Mr. October are that the Washinton D.C. event was incredible.  As Mr. October stated: "...DC was my 19th Walk, but my first as a 60 Mile Men.  And while I didn’t believe it was possible, it was EVEN better as a 60 Mile Man…."

You will be able to find Mr. February, and Mr. April walking this weekend in Philadelphia, while Mr. October will be working the lunch stops.  All three gentlemen have gone the extra distance in the fight against breast cancer, and are the proof that "real men wear pink...or nothing at all!"  They are all looking forward to meeting you, so please stop by, say hello, and ask about the calendars!

From Mr. May in San Francisco

Congrats to Mr. April and Mr. May, both of whom completed the San Francisco 3-Day, bringing the 3-Day back to northern California, and introducing San Franscisco to the 60-Mile Men.

In the words of Mr. May 2009, Robert:

SanFran_View_09

I enjoyed every minute of the walk.  Our camp was right near the Golden Gate Bridge and what a sight to see when you wake up and when you go to sleep.  For me I was overwhelmed once again with the one of the best times in my life.  For me it could not have gotten any better.  I got to see some spectacular sights, have some wonderful conversations, meet some very nice people.  I met up with Mr April Thursday night at the hotel and then again Saturday evening at dinner.  We took a moment to capture a picture of the two of us.

I received so many compliments on the walk about the calendar.  I was referred to all weekend as Mr May.  Even as I walked into the finish line all the spectators were congratulating Mr May for walking and supporting Breast Cancer.  When some of the walkers got a chance to see the calendar immediatly there were giggles, oohs and ahhs.  First I would show them Barry's picture and they would laugh at his cute tush and then onto my picture and they would say very nice Mr May.

I am honored to be a part of 60 Mile Men and honor all the men who took the time to shed their clothes and help raise money for such a worthy cause.  As for myself this is just the start, I plan on walking at least one walk each year.  Next year it is on to Seattle.   All I know is that I am ready for the challenge and welcome it.

A New City

It has been a while since the 3-Day has been to San Francisco.  Well, as the saying goes...wait until they get a view of us.

Barry, our Mr. April 2009 has walked in dozens of 3-Day events.  In fact, every event in 2006, AND 2007, AND 2008.  We will be our 60-Mile Men representative in San Francisco.  And being a 60-Mile Man has been a great experience for Barry:

It is a joy to be part of 60milemen. It brings more conversation and smiles to the walk. My pink beard has been my conversation piece in the past, but the sash is even better! I carry one calendar rolled up, tied to my back pack - when someone asks about Mr. April, I allow them to pull out the calendar and view it - the smiles, giggles, and teases help make the miles disappear. The teasing starts when the get to my page (Mr. April), then the oohs and ahhs start when they get to Mr. June - then I remind them there is writing on the side of the page :)

Welcome back San Francisco!

A few more congratulations

Congratulations to Mr. February 2008, who completed his first ever event as a walker.  Add he did manage to get the full experience: A Boston 3-Day that included 3 relocations!  After crewing the event multiple times, Jeremy was able to see more than just Camp!  Congatulations!

And Congratulations to Mr. April 2009, Mr. November 2009, and all the walkers in Cleveland.  After last year's rainout of closing ceremonies, we are all happy that you were able to see the culmination of a Breast Cancer 3-Day.  (And I am sorry that I was unable to attend this year's event- Mr. January 2008.)

As everyone is relaxing this Labor Day weekend, take a moment and remember why we are doing what we do.  Why we walk all those training miles.  Why we raise all the money.  Why we wake up at 4AM and crew all these events.....

And lastly, an early welcome to San Francisco!  Our Mr. May 2009 and Mr. Arpil 2009 will be joining so look for them, and stop and say hello.

A new experience

From Jeremy, Mr. February, 2008:

60-Mile Men has been an amazing experience that has changed me in ways I never imagined. When I first agreed to do this I joked that it was one of those things I never thought I would do but that was enough of reason to do it.   I figure what it would be a couple of hours to do the photo shoot and then that would be done.

A07_feb_jeremy_2

It turned out to be so much more. Radio interviews, newspaper articles, television spots which were all fun; but what surprised me the most was the reaction to the calendar on event.  The most amazing thing was on the first day a few people knew what was going on but as the event continued and our story spread the swell of people coming up to talk to us and share there stories was amazing.  That’s what the 3-Day and the 60-Mile Men means to me: that connection you make with total strangers because you did something a little different for a common cause.

As I am prepare to leave for Boston on my first 3-Day as a walker I’m excited to see the response Barry and I will receive.  This will be the first time the 60-Mile Men will be in Boston. It will be another amazing experience that I never thought I would have.  I am so thankful I get to experience this world in this way.

Chicago

The first 3-Day of the 2008 season was this past weekend in Chicago.  Congratulations to all the walkers and crew on an amazing accomplishment.  And, of course, congratulations to the three 60-Mile Calendar Men who participated in this year's Chicago 3-Day: Mr. April, Mr. June and Mr. August.  We have received numerous emails thanking you for your energy and enthusiasm.  Just one example:

...I really wanted to tell you I think it is GREAT that you are working together to fight this absolutely terrible disease, that devastates so many lives along its path, and so THANK YOU for being willing to have fun (for humor truly remains the best medicine), and to contribute in a very visual way that gets attention, to this very worthy cause.  -Deborah

This upcoming weekend will find two of our men in Boston for the 3-Day.  Mr. April 2009, who is walking in every event, and a 60-Mile Men alumni- Mr. February 2008.  After five years on Crew, Mr. February will be walking for the first time.  If you are participating in Boston, please be sure to walk with these gentlemen for a while- their passion for the cause and love of the 3-Day will help ease your journey.

Mr. April and Mr. June:

It was a great event last week.  Eight of the 2008 60-Mile Men and seven of the 2009 men showed up for the event.  (And a special thanks to Mr. May, Robert, who flew in from California for the party)

Be sure to look for these special men during each of the 2008 Breast Cancer 3-Days.
